We discuss on the topic "Inductive Teaching/Teaching Strategy". we were asked to divide ourselves in a group different from our home group. Each group was allocated with a topic and asked to prepare a presentation which we have to present in our home groups. After we have finished preparing our presentation we return to our home group and we discuss what we have learned in our expert group. The first topic we discuss was 'concept of inductive teaching/teaching strategy',second topic was 'purpose of inductive teaching', third topic was 'procedural steps of inductive teaching', fourth topic was 'role of teacher', fifth topic was 'merits and demerit of inductive teaching' and sixth topic was 'model lesson'.
1.Concept of inductive teaching:
-Students they themselves will do inquiry or discover and at the end they will generalize their data in their own understanding. It mainly focus on self discovery. They will move from the stage of known to unknown.
Example:Knowing the alphabet to constructing a word.
2.Purpose of inductive teaching:
1.It will motivated students to achieve their goals.
2.Enhance class room participation.
3.Work as a team to achieve goals.
3.Procedural steps of inductive teaching:
i.Phase I:The open ended phase:
- shows the students an examples and non-examples of a concepts.
-students observer and describe the examples.
-give another example or non-example.
-students compare the examples and non examples, find similarities and differences.
ii.Phase II: The convergent phase:
-students will be prompt to identify the patterns in the examples.
iii.Phase III: Closure:
-make the students to define the topic in their own words.
iv.Phase IV: The application phase:
-let the students apply whatever they have learn in the class into their real life.
4.Role of teacher:
-asked students lots of questions which will let them to their learning.
-provided materials for learning.
-gives hints and guides.
5.Merits and De-Merits:
Merits:
i.enhance teaching and learning.
ii.it motivates students to find and learn more.
iii.greater interaction between learners, teacher and materials.
De-merits:
i.it is time consuming(slow learners will not be able to move along with the active learners).
ii.it needs verifications.
iii.it is frustration for the leaner and all the topic can not be taught inductively.
